The Walt Disney Company and Electronic Arts Announce Multi-Year Star Wars Games Agreement

The Walt Disney Company and EA announced an agreement earlier today that will give Electronic Arts exclusive publishing rights for games based on Star Wars characters and storylines.  Under this agreement Electronic Arts will develop and publish new Star Wars titles for all platforms and across the most popular game genres.

EA officialy stated on news.ea.com:

“Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe,” said EA Labels President Frank Gibeau. “Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay.”

Dice and Visceral will team up with BioWare (the current developer for the Star Wars franchise) to produce entirely original Star Wars titles with all new stories and gameplay.

Does this mean the continued development of Battlefront 3 will be in the works?  Let us know what you think in the comment section below.

*UPDATE* @FrostbiteEngine announced on Twitter:

"Frostbite 3 will power the new  #StarWars games that Dice & Viceral will build!"
